Congratulations to Patrick Moelk, inducted as a member of the Springfield Lions Club on January 14. Lion Patrick is the son of his sponsor, Lion Bert Moelk. Lion Patrick got off to a great start by driving two blind residents of Newark to and from the Union County Association for the Blind meeting on January 20.
At the January 28 meeting, the Budget & Finance Committee will make recommendations on the Foundation's support for the SMART Center at Diamond Spring Lodge and for an ad in support of a NJ National Guard Family Readiness concert to be held in April. The Family Readiness Group provides services to the families of National Guard troops deployed to Afghanistan and Iraq.
PID Stan Grossman is still shipping manufacturer's coupons to the
troops overseas. Cut them out of the Sunday paper and give them to
Stan.
The NJ Devils will hold a NJ Lions Night on Saturday, February 7. Tickets for the match between the Devils and the LA Kings will be just $45 for $65 seats, with at least $7.00 returned to the club for every ticket purchased. Call or e-mail Ken Mattfield for information.
The dinner honoring soccer star Claudio Reyna, originally planned for March 25, has been moved to Wednesday, April 29. It will be held at L'Affaire in Mountainside, with the reception beginning at 6:15 P.M. March 25 will remain on the club schedule as the Joint Meeting with Springfield Rotary and Kiwanis. The Rotary Club is the host this year.
The next meeting will be Wednesday, January 28. Lion Dick Magee will update the club on the planning of the Claudio Reyna dinner.
Assemblyman Bramnick and his staff are collecting nonperishable food for local food pantries through February 27. Members can bring cereals, canned soups, peanut butter, jelly, rice, pasta, coffee, tea, meals in a can, powdered or shelf milk to Springfield Lions meetings. They can also take the food directly to the Assemblyman's office: 251 North Ave., West, 2nd Floor, Westfield. (Entrance off train station parking lot.)
Tickets for the February 24 Fat Tuesday Wine Tasting/Dinner can be purchased from any member for $60 each. The economic recession makes it harder to raise funds, even though our charitable obligations remain the same or greater. The $60 charge for wine tasting and dinner is a bargain. Usually these events charge that much--or more--just for a wine tasting.
